Whether you are planning for your own future or looking for ways to protect your family’s assets for future generations, participating in the estate planning process is an important step. There is a wide range of estate planning options. A knowledgeable and patient lawyer can help you choose a plan that best suits your individual needs.

I am Illinois attorney, Eileen Fitzgerald. For more than 30 years, I have been assisting clients in Downers Grove and throughout Chicago’s western suburbs with their estate planning. I received a master’s degree in taxation with an emphasis in estate planning and am knowledgeable in this area of law. Drafting Wills and Trusts in Chicago’s Western Suburbs

Wills are extremely useful tools for ensuring that your assets are distributed according to your wishes. A will designates your beneficiaries and appoints someone as executor of your estate. Wills also help to ensure that your family’s future is protected.

A trust can benefit you and your family while you remain living. It continues to operate after you pass in order to provide security to your family. Trusts are legal arrangements that allow individuals to transfer control of their assets in order to provide for the beneficiaries. I assist clients in drafting a wide range of trusts, including revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts, land trusts, special needs trusts, pooled trusts and testamentary trusts. Pooled trusts allow individuals to remain eligible for Medicaid benefits while still having assets in the trust to pay for services that Medicaid does not pay.

Illinois Powers of Attorney

  • Powers of attorney (health care): At my law office, I can draft an advance health care directive on your behalf that designates a loved one to make decisions pertaining to your medical care in the event you are unable to do so yourself. These documents allow you to make sure your wishes are carried out if (not of) of you become disabled.
  • Powers of attorney (property and finances): In the event you become disabled, this document can allow you to transfer your financial decision-making powers to a trusted individual.
